I’m not usually a Monday person, but today is different, because this particular Monday is different.
Two weeks ago today I gave my two weeks notice at my full time job to make more time to pursue photography and grow my business. So, today, this Monday, is my very first day doing that – and it feels AMAZING!
Ever since I took a photojournalism class my junior year of high school, it was my dream job to have my own photography business, but that always felt a bit unrealistic and unattainable. However, since then, I have been continuously blessed with constant opportunities to grow as a photographer through high school, college and in the little over two years since I have graduated. Looking back on it, it’s pretty ridiculous that I didn’t really see this coming.
Toward the beginning of this past year, I started to recognize that this really wasn’t something that was too crazy to go after, or all that far out of my reach – if I put in the work and actually decided to pursue it. So, I started attending workshops, blog-stalking a ton of awesome photographers, and tried to learn as much as I could about how to actually make this happen, and do it well.
Fast forward a few months later, and I found myself at a point where working a 9-5 with an hour or more commute both ways, shooting just about every single weekend, spending early mornings and late nights editing and doing all of the other things that come with running a business, all at the same time while still trying to make time for family and friends (and sleep) was just not something I could keep doing if I wanted to actually do all of these things WELL. So now here I am, two weeks later, sitting at my little desk working on building and running my own business, and that sure does make Mondays feel a whole lot better!
Great post! Good for you!
Congratulations! I am so very proud of you. You will go far. Everything you put your hand to will prosper and succeed.
